Selecting a totally different avenue in his profession he chose Communication in Health Promotion which combines health and the arts. As a communications specialist he crafted many creations for disease Prevention. Amongst these creations there are Tele-Dramas, Tele- Films, Cartoon films, Documentaries, Television and Radio commercials, Stage and Street dramas, Radio programme as well as print media creations. He has written lyrics and recorded  for about 150 songs. He conceptualised and conducts the first ever ‘Community Music Therapy’ programmes in Sri Lanka under the title ‘Sala Nisala’. He has carried out several researches on ‘Communication and Media’. Kapila has worked as a Television Presenter and a Radio Artist too. He has been bestowed with number of Youth Awards, State and International awards in recognition of his skills in many fields of arts.  Also he has been lecturing in many universities and post graduate institutions in  deferent subjects as health communication, music therapy ,creative communication ,tuberculosis etc.

 

Kapila is the first medical doctor in Sri Lanka to direct a series tele-drama. Using his experiences gained throughout his carrier. Kapila has directed his first film ‘Prathiroo’ (The Iconic Inspirations)based on his own screenplay and  became the first ever medical doctor to direct a feature film in history of Sri Lankan cinema.

Dr Kapila Krishantha Sooriyaarachch was born on 28th July 1962. Having received his elementary and secondary education at Ananda Central College, Elpitiya and D. S. Senanayaka College, Colombo respectively he secured a scholarship to study medicine at L’ vov State University in Ukraine USSR in 1983. While studying medicine in USSR for 07 years he made up this opportunity to study Russian literature, culture, music, drama and theatre. Kapila has shown his abundant skills in the field of arts as a school student. While been an undergraduate in a Russian university he developed and honed these inborn skills as an actor, musician and a singer.

 

Kapila chose Polonnaruwa, considered as a harsh territory at the time, for his early employment as a doctor. He has saved in the Field of Tuberculosis control and  chest diseases. During the 08 years of working in Polonnaruwa he gained a multitude of experiences enriching his life.Nearly 15 years  he has saved in the field of Tuberculosis control and he hold bottom to top positions. To this day he continues to make valuable contributions towards prevention of tuberculosis through active involvement in tuberculosis control activities in many ways. He is a member of the national advisory board for the National Tuberculosis Programme and became a life time member of Ceylon National Association for Prevention of Tuberculosis (CNAPT). Presently as the Vice Chairman for the association. He engaged in post graduate studies on chest diseases  and Social science and communications.
